text of obituary:

Burns Received in Grove Are Fatal To Upland, California, Resident.

L. L. Harms of Upland, Calif., was fatally burned Thursday, Jan. 20, in the grove of fruit trees there owned by his brother-in-law, Harry A. Ledig.

Although no one was present at the time of the accident it is considered that he received the burns while lighting smudge pots, which was necessary because of the unseasonably cool weather in that section of California at that time. Death came to Mr. Harms in the hospital to which he had been rushed immediately after the accident became known.

funeral services were held at the Upland Mennonite church on Monday, January 25, the church where he had been a member.

Mr. Harms was 50 years old. He is survived by his wife, daughter Margaret and sons Arthur and Leonard.
