text of obituary:

EIGHTY-THREE YEAR OLD RESIDENT CALLED AWAY AT REEDLEY, CALIFORNIA

Reedley, Calif. — Nicholas B. Friesen, 83, passed away at his home here in the Reedley Hospital Saturday morning, Oct. 26. Mr. Friesen was a well known settler of the Reedley community.

Years ago, in Nebraska he had his right leg amputated, but he recovered his health and continued in business even driving his own car. Then a few weeks ago his old trouble returned, settling in his left leg and in an effort to save his life, it also was amputated.

Mr. Friesen was born in Russia on March 17, 1857 and he had lived in the United States for 68 years. He first came to California to spend the winter and then for years it was the custom of him and his wife to come here every autumn and return to their home in Nebraska in the spring, until twenty-one years ago, when they decided to make Reedley their permanent home.
