Blind Craftsman Dies At Indiana Home

Berne, Ind. — Funeral services for John P. Eicher, 76, a blind wood craftsman who was formerly a resident here, were held April 20 at the Leo Mennonite Church. He died April 17 at the home near Huntertown, north of Fort Wayne.

Despite his handicap, Mr. Eicher was a wood carver and expert carpenter, and became widely known for the miniature red barns which he produced. Surviving in the immediate family are his widow, five daughters, three sons, and 12 grandchildren.

Mr. Eicher was a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Church of Berne. Rev. Robert Zehr, pastor here, and Rev. Earl Hartman of the Leo Church conducted the funeral.
