MRS. KATHERINE GOEBEL

Katherine Fast Goebel was born on Oct. 9, 1882 near Henderson, Neb. to Isaac and Katherine Nightingale Fast. As a child she came with her parents to Oklahoma where she lived near Medford. She was the first member to be baptized into the Deer Creek Mennonite Church on Dec. 9, 1900, by Rev. M. Horsch.

She was united in marriage to John William Goebel on Jan. 31, 1901 with whom she shared life's joys and sorrows for 58 years, until father was called to his reward in March of 1959.

This union was blessed with four sons, David of Blackwell, Benjamin of Dallas, Oregon, William of Albany, Oregon, and Jacob of Arkansas City, Kansas; four daughters, Louise Goebel of Topeka, Kansas, Ruth Stone of Halstead, Kansas, Frieda Scruggs of Fairfield, Texas, and Ella May Reusser of Deer Creek.

Other survivors include 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Two years ago she suffered a stroke and since that time she had made her home in the Newkirk Nursing Home. For two weeks she had been a patient in the Blackwell General Hospital where she passed away at 12:40 a.m. July 23, after suffering a severe heart attack.

She reached the age of 79 years, nine months, and 14 days.
