DANIEL FRANCIS SHENK
Daniel Francis Shenk, son of Bishop John M. and Fannie (Good) Shenk, was born near Elida, Ohio on Oct. 17, 1886; died June 22, 1962, after a lingering illness of cancer, at the “Rock of Ages” Mennonite Home near McMinnville, Oregon, age 75 years, eight months, and five days.
On Nov. 24, 1910, he was united in marriage to Fannie Schrag at Hubbard, Oregon.
He was ordained to the ministry in 1915 at the Hopewell Mennonite Church, Hubbard, Oregon. In 1923 the family moved to Sheridan, Oregon, where he had faithfully served since that time. For approximately the past 18 years, by request of the congregation, he devoted full time to personal work. Because of his passion for souls and the zeal he put into this work, the Lord blessed his efforts and gave him many souls for his hire. His passing will leave a great vacancy in the home, church, and community. His cheerful smile and friendly manner were marked characteristics of his personality.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Lloyd W. of Pacific City, Ore., Kenneth M. of Sheridan, Ore., Ronald J. of Vanderhoof, B. C., Canada; one daughter, Mildred, Mrs. Enos Schrock of Sheridan, ore.; 19 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; five brothers, Mose of Hesston, Kan., Reuben of Pasco, Wash., John of Philadelphia, Pa., Levi of Newport News, Va., and Jacob of LaJunta, Colo.; and one sister, Rebecca, Mrs. Royal Buskirk of Brutus, Mich.
Funeral services were held June 25 at the Sheridan Mennonite Church, with Leroy Cowan and David Hostetler officiating. The sermon text was Psa. 73:24. Interment was made in the Mennonite Cemetery.
