PETER ABRAHAMS

Peter Abrahams, son of Jacob and Anna (Flaming) Abrahams, was born Feb. 21, 1879, in McPherson County, Kansas and spent most of his life on the farm where he was born. He received his education in the Turkey Creek School and the Hillsboro Bible Academy.

His mother's death when he was 20 years old was a great loss to him.

He was baptized upon his confession of faith in Christ as his Savior and Lord at the age of 22 by Elder Peter Balzer and became a member of the Hoffnungsau Church, where he remained a faithful member until his death.

On June 6, 1913 he was married to Helen Buller, and to this union three daughters were born. They made their home on their farm east of Inman. His great love for farming continued strong even after retirement.

In 1949 they left their farm home to spend their retiring years in Inman. They lived here until the fall of 1960 when they moved into the Schmidt Nursing Home in Moundridge.

He enjoyed good health until January 1960 when he had surgery in the Axtell Hospital in Newton. He never fully regained his strength and the following July entered Mercy Hospital in Moundridge for a two-month stay. Arrangements were made for them to live in the Schmidt Nursing Home.

After suffering an acute heart attack, he quietly went home to be with his Lord on Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. He reached the age of 82 years, seven months and six days.

He leaves to mourn, his wife Helen; three daughters, Gladys, Mrs. Frank Epp, and husband of Elbing; Dora, Mrs. Dan Thiessen, and husband; and Martha Mrs. Henry Doerksen, and husband of Inman; and nine grandchildren.

He was one of 12 children, six of whom survive, two brothers, Curt of Hillsboro and George of Goessel; and four sisters: Mrs. Anna Boese of Lake Charles, La., Mrs. Susie Boese, Turpin, Okla.; Mrs. Kathern [sic Katharina] Klassen, Downey, Calif.; and Mrs. Marie Hiebert, Newport, Wash.

He also leaves one step-brother, Henry Richert of Moundridge, and four step-sisters, Mrs. Anna Voth, Inola, Okla.; Mrs. Margaret Schmidt and Mrs. Helen Abrahams of Goessel; and Miss Elizabeth Richert of Newton. — The Family.
