HENRY J. VOTH

Henry J. Voth of Goessel, Kansas, son of John and Karolina Herfort Voth was born in Gnadenthal, South Russia, on August 17, 1866.

As a small lad he came to the United States with his parents, settling in the Alexanderwohl Community. Here he received only a limited amount of elementary education. He accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized upon his confession of faith June 14, 1886 by Rev. Jacob Buller and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel, Kansas. He was a faithful member and loyal to his obligations.

On Nov. 16, 1893 he entered holy wedlock with Helena Klassen with Rev. Peter Balzer officiating. Farming became the means of earning a livelihood. To this union was born one child, Helena, who died at birth.

The parents, however, took other children into their home from time to time. Two of these, Frieda and Ernest, were adopted. Frieda, Mrs. J. J. Flaming, died in 1947. Mrs. Voth died Dec. 9, 1948, severing a marriage bond of 55 years. Mr. Voth was a reserved man, hence did not enter many social responsibilities, but gave his energy and time to his family and his work.

On March 16, 1956 he entered the Bethesda Home, Goessel, where he remained a resident until his death. He did not have good health during the last few years and needed to spend time in the hospital. On Nov. 17, 1961 he entered the Bethesda Hospital again and entered his eternal rest Nov. 19, 1961, having reached the age of 95.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his son Ernest and wife Helen of Rt. 2, Hillsboro, Kansas; one son-in-law, J. J. Flaming of Rt. 2, Newton; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; also Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Fisher and family of Hutchinson and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Klassen and family of Whitewater and friends.
