Retired Mission Supt. Dies at Columbia, Pa.

Lancaster, Pa. — Rev. Christian Z. Martin,67, superintendent of the Columbia Mennonite Mission for 35 years, died Sept. 25 at his home on Route 2, Columbia.

Ordained to the ministry in 1923, Rev. Martin was superintendent and pastor of the mission until his retirement in 1958 due to ill health. He also served as a traveling evangelist in the U. S. and Canada for 18 years and was widely known.

He was well-known to Lancaster County residents as the operator of a retail meat business, having a stand at the Central Market in Lancaster. The business is still carried on by several of his sons.

Survivors include his second wife, the former Elsie Burkey Godenauer, eight children and three step-children.
