PETER SCHRITT

Peter Schritt of Winkler, Manitoba was born in Russia to Peter and Elizabeth Schritt on September 13, 1889. He was married to Kathrina Balko on April 26, 1920. The couple emigrated to Germany where they lived for nine years before moving to Canada, settling in Winkler, Manitoba. In 1924 both were baptized on confession of their faith and received into the Baptist church in Danzig, Germany. In 1931 they were received into the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church, where they enjoyed many blessings. Mr. Schritt was a builder of houses, and many homes in the Winkler area are witness to his thrift and basic knowledge of the building profession. He first had surgery in 1958, and had several operations after that. In January, 1976 he entered the Personal Care Home, where he became steadily weaker. He appreciated the loving care he received from the nurses, orderlies and doctors. On February 7 he went to be with the Lord. A funeral service at which pastor John D. Stoesz and Rev. G. D. Pries spoke was held February 11 in the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Katherina; one daughter, Helen (Mrs. Art) Giesbrecht of Winnipeg; four sons, Peter of Thunder Bay, Ontario, John of Terrace Bay, Ontario, Henry of Winnipeg, and Ernie of Toronto; 11 grandchildren; four great· grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Henry Poetker; and many relatives and friends.
