PETER J. REMPEL

Peter J . Rempel was born on June 2, 190 in southern Russia. After receiving his teacher training, he taught for one year. In 1924 he married Katie Barkman and together they migrated to Canada. After studies at Mennonite Collegiate Institute, Gretna, he again became involved in teaching. For 3 years he taught in schools near Steinbach and Morris. From 1965 to 1971 he served as director of German and religious instruction in schools in southern Manitoba.

During his youth he experienced a deep genuine conversion. From that time, it ha been his sincere desire to help in building God's kingdom, particularly in teaching Sunday school. In 1964 he and his wife moved to Winnipeg and joined the Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church. Here too, he continued to enjoy the study of God's Word and to participate actively in various ministries of the church.

On February 21, 1976 he passed away at the Concordia Hospital, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife Katie, one son Alfred and his wife Elvira, two daughters Elfrieda and husband David Duerksen, Dorothy and husband Helmut Huebert; nine grandchildren. One son Rudolph predeceased him in 1954. Funeral services were held at the Portage Avenue MB Church on February 24.
