Randalin 'Randy' A. Bargdill, age 82, of Blue Rapids, passed away at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, surrounded by her family, on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. Randy was born October 8, 1931, at Newton to Walter H. and Elsbeth H. (Roessler) Hohmann. She spent a happy childhood growing up with her beloved sister, Gert and brother, Rupert in their house on the edge of Bethel College campus. Randy earned a Bachelor’s of Education degree from Bethel College in Newton, a Master’s in Education from Kansas State University, and was also recognized as a Master Teacher in 1995. Randy was inducted into the Valley Heights Teacher Hall of Fame for her dedication to her profession, her colleagues and her students. Randy was married to Allen Bargdill on October 18, 1953 in Newton, Kansas. They had three children, Gary, Becky and Debbie. Randy’s early teaching career began in Hutchinson and Topeka. and in 1964 she began teaching grade school vocal music at the Blue Rapids Grade School. In 1974 she added junior and senior high school vocal music to teaching grade school vocal music. She loved putting on the Spring Show for the communities of Blue Rapids and Waterville. Later in 1984 she taught Kindergarten at the Blue Rapids Grade School. Randy retired from teaching in 1997 after spending much of her adult life and enjoying teaching generations of children and getting to know them. Randy was active in the community. She enjoyed raising money for the tennis courts in Blue Rapids, and leading the music direction in summer theatre. She spent much of adult life as an active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids. She was superintendent of Education and also taught Sunday School. Randy was also a member the VFW Auxiliary, the Blondie Breeding Card Club, the 20th Century Club of the General Federation of Business Women’s Clubs and Gamma Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She also shared a love of sports and music with her family. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports, music, singing, theatre and many other activities. She attended as many events as possible. When her health kept her at home she stayed close to the radio to listen to the games. Randy also attended many KSU basketball and football games with her husband, and then later with her children and grandchildren including trips to bowl games. Randy adored being a grandmother and always had a word of advice for whatever was going on in their lives. She was the glue that made this family very close knit. Randy was preceded in death by her husband Allen who died in 1979. Survivors include her three children; Gary A. Bargdill and wife Mary Ann of Blue Rapids, Rebecca A. Fortney and husband Phillip of Topeka and Deborah K. Love and husband Robert of Topeka, a brother; Dr. Rupert Hohmann of Newton, a sister; Gertrude E. Dyck of Topeka, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, in Faith Hall at the United Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, April 25, 2014, at the United Presbyterian Church in Blue Rapids with Reverend Marilyn Sweet and Pastor Gary Phillips officiating. Music is to include congregational hymns of "Holy, Holy, Holy" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". The organist is Julie Gleason. Honorary Bearers are Phil Hanson, Marvyn Weeks, Kenny Johnson, Terre Carter, Harry Johnston, Gene Fincham, Jim King and Todd Schafer. An Inurnment at Prospect Hill Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorials are requested to the United Presbyterian Church and may be sent in care of Terry-Christie Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
