WALTER SPERLING

Walter Sperling of Dalmeny, Saskatchewan was born in 1911, and died at the age of 64 on September 17.

As a youth of nineteen he received Christ and found assurance of salvation in the verse, "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved." He was then baptized and joined the Ebenezer Mennonite Brethren Church. He served as Sunday school treasurer, sang in the church choir, and played a number of instruments. In his later years he spent many hours at the piano playing the hymns he loved so much.

On November 14, 1944 he married Albertina Giesbrecht. The couple had nine. children. Mr. Sperling enjoyed the family immensely; together they would often go on outings to nearby rivers and lakes where they enjoyed hiking and fishing. Farming seemed to suit his quiet nature. He loved the land and enjoyed working with machinery. He was very innovative and often made things himself instead of buying them.

While recovering from a recent heart attack advanced cancer was discovered. The family is thankful that although he was hospitalized occasionally during the past year and a half he was able to spend most of this time at home. On Wednesday morning, September 17, God released him from his ailing body and took him home. A funeral service was held at the Dalmeny Mennonite Brethren Church.

Left to mourn are his wife, Albertina, their children, Violet, Ken, Lorne, Lloyd, Brian, Mrs. Gregg (Beatrice) Anderson, Gilbert, Julene, and Doris; his brothers, John, Henry, Peter, and Lawrence; and his sisters, Ruby, Rosella, and Glady
