MRS. KAY BERGEN

rloff, SagrHdowka, sout hern Russia to Gerhard and Katharina (nee Schmidt) Penner. In 1920 she contacted small pox. Her parents had little hope for her recovery, but God restored hl'r health again. In 1925, when Kay was seven, the family immigrated to Canada . They settled in Oak Bluff, Man. where they had purchased a farm. This is where she grew up and received her education. In her parly youth she accepted Christ as her Saviour and remained true to him until the end . On May 21, 1932 her father died of cancer. Her mother was also ill and after being bedridden for five years, died on May 12 , 1935. Shortly after her mother's death, Kay went to Winnipeg and found employment there. For two years , 1938-40, she attended the Winkler (Man .) Bible Institute. This intensive Bible study proved to be a great blessing in her life. Upon confession of her faith she was baptized June 19, 1928 by Rev. C. N . Hiebert and became a member of what was then the North E nd Mennonite Brethren Church, Winnipeg, She married Abe Bergen on May 22, 1948 . Their union was blessed with four children . She loved t he church and whenever time and health permitted she helped along in the numerous relief projects of the church. On June 23 . coming home from her daughter 's home , she had a car accident near McGregor, Man. in which she was fatally injured. She leaves to mourn her husband, Abe Bergen; daught er Linda at home, daughter Lorraine and husband Ed Kroeker and two children of Brookdale, Man., daughter Anita and husband Tom Place, Winnipeg, and son Donald at home. She also leaves two brothers and five sisters , plus a host of relatives and friends . She reached age 57.
