JACOB A. STELTING

It has pleased our heavenly Father to call my husband, Jacob Stelting, to his home in glory. His life of testings, days of joys and sorrow, are past. His labors and sufferings have ended.

Jacob Stelting, the son of August and Wilhelminne [sic Wilhelmina] (Hein) Stelting, was born on June 30, 1892, on a farm near Hillsboro, Kansas. Here he attended the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren church and Sunday school, as well as the local public schools.

On July 4, 1901, his father passed away rather suddenly. The Lord, however, graciously undertook for the family. On May 26, 1904, his mother was united in marriage to Heinrich Lohrenz. This brought Jacob into a large home circle near Aulne, Kansas, with five step-brothers and four step-sisters. The family continued to attend the Ebenfeld church.

In the spring of 1907 a great revival swept the Ebenfeld community through the ministry of Rev. J. H. Voth. My dear husband was one of those who received assurance of salvation, and on Pentecost Sunday, 1907, he was baptised with 66 other young people by Rev. J. H. Hiebert and united with the Ebenfeld church for fellowship.

He began to farm on his parents' home place in 1916. In the spring of that year he was united in marriage to Mary Bergen of Minnesola [sic Minneola?], Kansas. They lived and worked together on their farm for a number of years. In 1923 it pleased the Lord to take her home to glory.

In 1945 Mr. Stelting came to California. Here he found in Mrs. Carolina Balzer another companion. We were united in marriage on August 19, 1946, and made our home on a farm south of Reedley. He joined the Reedley Mennonite Brethren church for fellowship.

During his last years he had severe physical and mental sufferings. The Lord graciously called him home to glory on May 2, 1960. He reached the age of 67 years, 10 months, and two days. I will miss my husband greatly but I rest in the assurance that he is forever with the Lord.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife; his only sister, Mrs. J. P. Epp of Hilsboro, Kansas, together with her daughter-in-law; also step-brothers and step-sisters, as well as other relatives and friends.

The memorial service was held May 15 in the Mennonite Brethren church of Reedley, Calif. with Rev. Dan Friesen, the pastor, officiating. — Mrs. Carolina Stelting.
