text of obituary:

MRS. LYDIA BIRKY

Lydia Birky, daughter of Christian and Magdalena Shertz [sic Schertz], was born Feb. 11, 1874 near Hopedale, Ill. She passed away at the York, Neb. hospital on March 12, 1960, at the age of 86 years, one month, one day.

She was married to Daniel Z. Birky on Jan. 14, 1960 [sic 1900} at Hopedale, Ill. She was a faithful member of the Mennonite church at Beemer, Neb., where her husband served as deacon for 32 years.

Surviving are one daughter, Dora, Mrs. G. G. Miller of Beemer, and eight grandchildren.

Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1958. They lived on a farm northeast of Beemer until they retired and moved to Beemer. When their health failed they entered the Sunset Home for the Aged at Geneva, Neb. Mrs. Birky planned to return and reside with her daughter, Mrs. G. G. Miller, but a week before her death she fell and broke her hip, from which she never recovered. A chronic heart condition also contributed to her death.

Because of the snow and blocked roads, funeral services were conducted at the Stalp funeral home and not all of the relatives and few of the friends were able to attend. Burial was made in the Beemer cemetery.
