JOHN P. QUIRING

It has pleased the Lord to take our dear husband and father, John P. Quiring, from us through death. Son of Peter and Agatha (Dick) Quiring, he was born Jan. 14, 1882, at Lamberton, Highwater township, Minnesota, where he grew up and went to school. he died Jan.16, 1958. He reached the age of 76 years and two days.

In 1901 he was baptized upon the confession of faith in Christ by his uncle, Elder Heinrich Quiring, and received as a member of the Bergfelder Church, now known as the Gospel Mennonite Church.

In 1905 he was joined in holy matrimony to Helena Rempel by Elder Gerhard Neufeld in the First Mennonite church. Shortly thereafter he also joined this congregation. They made their home in town for about 12 years. They lived together in holy wedlock a little over 52 years. This union was blessed with four boys.

In 1917 they moved with their sons on the farm. When the boys were grown and had left home they moved back to town.

They transferred their membership to the Gospel Mennonite Church in 1933, being active in the various phases of church work. Our husband and father loved the church and served the Lord for many years. He was Sunday school teacher and served 12 years as Sunday school superintendent. Though lacking adequate formal training, he taught himself to study the Word of God and found great delight therein.

In the last months of his final illness he expressed a positive faith in the Lord Jesus Christ whom he had accepted many years before. Toward the end he was eager to go home and be with the Lord. He was also deeply concerned that all the members of they family might some day join him in glory. His favorite song was, “Jesus, Lover of My Soul.”

His parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Helena Rempel Quiring; four sons, Otto and Peter of Worthington, Clarence of Mountain Lake, and Alvin of Jackson; four daughters-in-law; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, three sisters, plus many other relatives and friends.

Though we have sorrow and grief, yet we sorrow not as those who have no hope. Through Christ's ressurection [sic] and our faith in Him, we have hope of a glad reunion. — Mrs. John P. Quiring and Family.
