POLIO CLAIMS TWO LIVES IN NORTHERN INDIANA COMMUNITIES

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Mahlon Earl Engle, 25, Elkhart county’s second polio fatality of the season, were held Sept. 7 at the Locke Brethren in Christ church near Nappanee.

The young man, employed by a bakery here, became ill Aug. 30 and passed away Sept 4 at Elkhart General hospital.

He leaves his wife, Carol, and two small sons; his father, Hiram Engle of Detroit, Kans.; two brothers, one sister and a half brother.

Shipshewana, Ind. — Poliomeyelitis [sic] proved fatal at Northern Indiana Children’s hospital to Vernon Miller, four year old son of Enos Millers of the Amish community here. Private funeral services were conducted Sept. 6 at a LaGrange funeral home by Bishop Wm. Miller.
