— C. C. Koehn, 61 [sic 71], lifelong resident of the Halstead community, died at the Halstead Hospital last Saturday evening. He was one of several persons in the Halstead area who were thought to have contracted encyphalitis [sic], but this was not definitely established as the cause of death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Grace Mennonite Church, of which he was a member. He had been employed at the Halstead Hospital the past 12 years. Surviving are his wife, five daughters and one son.

CORNELIUS C. KOEHN

Cornelius C. Koehn, son of Benjamin and Susan Koehn, was born May 24, 1885, at Halstead Kansas and passed away in the Halstead Hospital on Oct. 20, 956; reaching the age of 71 years, four months and 26 days.

On Sept. 4, 1912, he was married to Elizabeth Schmidt of Halstead. they shared life's joys and sorrows for 44 years. to this union were born five daughters and one son. He was a life-long resident of the Halstead community. He farmed for many years and for the last 12 years was employed at the Halstead hospital.

At the age of 31, he felt the need of a Saviour and accepting the Lord, he found forgiveness of sins, and was baptized upon confession of his faith on April 3, 1916, by Elder F. C. Fricke, becoming a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He remained a faithful member until the end.

He enjoyed fair health till in later years, when arthritis and heart complications set in, but he was about his work most of the time. On Oct. 7 he became sick and was taken the next day to the Halstead Hospital where after about two weeks of suffering, he peacefully fell asleep.

Mr. Koehn was a kind and gentle husband and father, living a quiet Christian life. He never complained about the many hardships. He had a deep concern for his loved ones and also took a great interest in his grandchildren, who all loved him.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his sorrowing campanion [sic]; five daughters and one son, Mrs. Cornelia (Oscar) Cotton of Fredonia, Mrs. Vivian (Henry) Roberts of Macksville, Mrs. Lucille(Martin) Jantz of Halstead, Dale A. (Betty Joe) Koehn of Newton, Mrs. Vada Reaves and Miss Nola Koehn of Halstead; 25 grandchildren; two brothers, Ben of Rich Hill, Mo. and Simon B. of Halstead; one sister, Mrs. Jake Johnson of Halstead, and many other relatives and friends.

One little grandson, his parents, two brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted from the Grace Mennonite Church on Oct. 24,1956, at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Carl Dirks was in charge, assisted by Rev. Kenneth Smith, Rev. Arnold Wiggers and Rev. Harry Wenger of Hesston. Rev. Wenger delivered the funeral sermon, Reuben Buller, Orville Becker, Glen Wiggers and Dave Unruh sang. Funeral services were in charge of the Kaufman Funeral home.
