ELIZABETH BORG

Elizabeth Borg (nee Unruh) w as born in th e Crim ea , in 1876. Sh e was the la st survi vor of 10 children, At th e age of 19 she accepted Ch ri st t hro ugh t he ministry of her uncle, Peter Unruh, and in 1895 she jo ined t he M B Church at Orloff. In 1897 she w as marri ed t o Wilh elm Hamm, who died in 1902, leaving her w it h three chi ld ren. A fter a w idowhoo d of ten years she married Cornelius Borg and t hey settled in Tiege, wh ere they joined the A ll iance Church. During t his time they lost their oldest so n, reported missing in t he revolution followi ng WWi. In 1926 t he fa mily moved to Canada and lived in va rious pla ces in Ontario, finally settli ng in Kit ch ener and were members of the M B Chu rch . Her hus band died in 1955 and her oldest daughter (M rs Peter Schmidt) in 1970. The last 10 years of her life were spent in t he United Mennonite Hom e for th e Aged in V ineland, where she received loving care and treatment unt il her death. She died on November 25, 1972, reaching the age o f 96 years. Sh e is survived by two sons and two daughters, 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchi ldren, and one g.g . grandso n. Funeral services were held in t he Kitchener M .B. Church with F.C, Peters in charge.
