SUSANNA VOTH

Mrs. H.S. (Susanna) Voth was born in 1882 in Haskett, Manito ba. A s a child she spent a good dea l of her ti me in her fath er's class roo m and lea rn ed t o read at five. A t an earl y age she accepted Christ as her Saviour, and joi ned th e Winkler MB Church in 1900. She att end ed W inkler and Gretna scho ols, but being th e oldest child of a large fam ily was needed at home to assist her moth er. Th e Voth s w ere amongst t he ear li est pio neers in th e Wink lel' area. In 1904 she marr ied Henry S. Voth of Bingham Lake, Minnesota. For 49 yea rs they share d joys and so rrow s. Since her husb and was an evangelist and often aw ay from home, much of t he trai ni ng of th e fami ly fell upon her shou lders. Soo n after their marriage, i:l move w as ma de to Orego n, wh ere her husband served th e Dallas and Portla nd con gregation s or 7 yea rs. Afte r a stay in M ountain Lake, M inn. , they settled near Roland, Ma nito ba, and aft er 1945 in Winkler, wh ere M r. Voth served as church leader for 19 years . Aft er Mr. Voth's death in 1953 Susa nna moved to t he Tabor Home and later th e Salem hom e, w here she remained until her death. Her last yea rs were marred by a grad ual declin e in hea lt h after a stroke in 1970. Sh e died on December 20 at t he age of 90. In her diary she had w ri tten: "C hrist gives li fe t he spiritual dimension witho ut w hich life has no ult imate mea ni ng." Funeral services were held in th e Winkl er ' M .B. Ch urch wi t h H. R. Baerg, F. H. Fri esen and G .D. Pries offi ciating . Left to mourn are 3 daughters, 3 sons, and t heir res pective fami lies, incl ud ing 12 grandchild ren , as w ell as 3 sisters and 4 brothers.
