HENRY PETER WIENS

Henry P. Wiens of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away on May 29. The funeral was conducted from the East Chilliwack Mennonite Brethren Church on June 3 with Rev. Ben Heppner and Rev. George Thielman ministering. Rev. H. G. Klassen led in a graveside meditation.

Henry Wiens, wa s barn in Kleefeld , s'Outhern Russia, on October 3, 1911. The Wiens fami'ly left Russia far Canada in 1926 and sealed in Manit'Oba. It was here he accepted Christ as his Savi'Our at the age 'Of 16. Later, t'Ogether with his family, he m'Oved t'O C'Oa'ldale, Alberta, where h'e was baptized and became a member 'Of the Mennonite Brethren Church. He enjoyed participating in church activities, especially chair groups . His Bible school training was shorten'ed due to his father's death.

On N'Ovember 5, 1939 he was united in marriage t'O Hilda Dyck in S'O,uth Abb'Otsf'Ord. F'oll'Owing the wedding, they return ed to the farm in Alberta . In 1945 the Lord led them to British Columbia where they again t'O'Ok up ·farming. The East Chilliwack Church, t'O which they transferred their membership, requested that they serve as deacons, and after prayerfu'l considerati'On they accepted. The ordinati'On t'O'Ok place 'On N'Ovember 21, 1954. He served in this capacity wil'lingly and with a sense of duty unti'l the end.

Up'On retirement fr'Om the farm in 1970, they moved t'O Chilliwack . Sh'Ortly thereafter he became aware 'Of ·il,lness which far vari'Ous periods 'Of time required hospital'izati'On. On May 29 he passed peacefully into the presence 'Of the Lord. His last wards t'O his family were, "That his (!God's) name may be g'I'Orified." He leaves t'O mourn, his loving wife, Hi'lda ; twa sans, Ewa'idand wife Anne and John 'and wife Carole; two daughters, Frieda and Helen; three grandchildren; one brother and three sisters, together with many relatives and ,friends.
