ADOLPH PLETSCHER

Adolph, son of Michael and Brbara Eyman Pletscher, was born in the parental home two and a hlaf miles south of Trenton, Ill. on Sept 1, 1881. Here he grew to manhood. he attended the public school in his neighborhood and also the German school of the Summerfield Mennonite Church.

He was united in marriage with Anna H. Villhard by Rev. J. B. Baer on Sept. 10, 1914, at the home of her parents in Summerfield. They started housekeeping and homemaking on a farm a quarter mile west of Summerfield. Here they lived for 15 years and then moved to Trenton, where they lived for 22 years and engaged in the poultry business. In 1951 they moved back to Summerfield into their newly purchased house and have lived there since.

Six children were born to them and all are still living: Norma, Mrs. Claude True, Trenton, Ill.; Wilma, Mrs. George Renfro, Lancaster, Texas; Verna, Mrs. Gerald Copeland Hammond, ind.; Edna, Mrs. Ben Dawson Lancaster, Texas; Alva, Mrs. Warren Beckemeyer, Gillette, New jersey; and Eva, Mrs. Don Pierce South Bend, ind. There are 13 grandchildren.

He was received into the membership of the Summerfield Mennonite Church through the rite of baptism upon the confession of his faith in Christ by Rev. C. H. van der Smissen. He was a faithful and active member of his church and helped to bring up his family in the Church. He held various offices in the church and for some years was the teacher of the older Adult Sunday school class. He will be greatly missed in the church and in the home. He attended his last service in the church and partook of the holy Communion on Easter Sunday morning, just 24 hours before the final summons came to him to come up higher.

Just a year ago in the middle of March he had a rather severe heart attack form which he recovered fairly well. He had several attacks during the past year and had to be very careful not to exert himself too much. On Monday forenoon, April 2, another attack came without warning and at 11:45 a. m. he peacefully breathed his last. He reached the age of 74 years, seven months and one day.

He leaves his devoted wife, his six daughters and sons-in-law and 13 grandchlidren; also five sisters, Mrs. Anna Harpstrite of Trenton, Mrs. Myrthe Baer of New Baden, Ill., Mrs. Rev. William Stuemky of New Kirk, Okla., Mrs. John Dagit of New Baden, and Mrs. Otto Baer, Lebanon, Ill.; and a number of nephews and nices [sic] and many friends.

Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. S. Bechtel in the St. John E. and R. Church in Summerfield on Thursday afternoon April 5. Burial was made in the Summerfield cemetery.
