MRS. GERHARD BAERGEN

Our mother, Anna Gerbrand Baergen, was born in South Russia on Dec.26, 1867, and departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on April 3, 1956, at 1;15 in the morning at the age of 88 years, three months and seven days.

At the age of 10 years she came with her parents to the United States and settled in the Buhler, Kansas, community, where she spent most of her life. During the last 11 years she resided in Hutchinson.

On Sept. 2, 1888, she was baptized upon her confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by Rev. Bernhard Buhler and was received into the membership of the Hebron Mennonite Church at Buhler, Kansas. At the time other [sic] marriage, she transferred her membership to the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church near Inman, Kansas, where our father was a member, and later to the Buhler Mennonite Church where she remained a faithful member until her death.

On Sept. 12, 1889, she was united in marriage to Gerhard Baergen, who preceded her in death on June 1, 1933. This union was blessed with nine children, of whom one daughter, Anna preceded her in death on East morning, April 10, 1955.

In her lifetime, she went through several serious illnesses from which she recovered completely.

She leaves to mourn her departure four daughters, Mrs. H. F. Reimer of Inman, Mrs. A. B. Unruh of Hutchinson, Marie Baergen of Halstead, and Mrs. Bertha Tiahrt of Hutchinson; four sons, Gus of Hutchinson, George of Bazine, Herbert of Hutchinson, and Arnold of Bakersfield, Calif.; 128 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Regier of North Newton, Mrs. D. P. Dyck of Buhler; one brother, H. B. Gerbrand of Buhler; and other relatives and a host of friends.

She was a loving and devoted mother who lived a life of service for her family and friends. She possessed a happy and cheerful disposition which was a constant source of encouragement to her family. We shall miss her greatly but shall be comforted by her memory and the knowledge that she has gone to be with her Savior and Lord. — The Children.
