CORNELIUS U. GIESBRECHT

Cornelius U. Giesbrecht was born October 21, 1910 at Neuhoffnung, Manitoba to Henry and Elizabeth Giestbrecht. His mother predeceased him when he was almost three years old. He grew up with four brothers, two sisters, four half-bro~hers and five half-sisters, of which four - three brothers and a sister have predeceased him .

He decided to follow Jesus when he was 27 years old and upon the confession of his faith was baptized in 1949 and joined the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church. Maria Enns became his beloved wife on October 24, 1937. Their marriage was blessed with three sons and two daughters. They made their home in Meath, S.D., living there from 1937 to 1965 when they moved on to a farm near Elm Creek. Here they joined the fellowship of the Newton Mennonite Brethren Church.

He was highly respected and deeply loved by his children. With his passing, a part of them has also passed away. Although his life, especially during the latter years, was difficult because of illness and farming difficulties, he never ceased to sing or to play his harp. As a child of the Lord's, he sought to be a friend to all.

He passed away suddenly on November 3, 1971, leaving to mourn his passing, his wife, Maria; three sons, Bill and his wife Liz, Walter and his wife Mary, Corny and his wife Elvera; two daughters, Martha and her husband Sydney, Mary and her husband Abe; 13 grandchildren; a brother and a sister and many relatives and friends.

The funeral was conducted from the Newton MB Church with Rev. J.J. Nikkel and Rev. D.A. Dyck ministering .
