Birth date: 1899

text of obituary:

. . .

— The Newton community suffered a distinct loss last week in the sudden passing of Dr. John B. Nanninga, 53, prominent physician and surgeon of the Bethel Deaconess hospital and clinic. He died suddenly of a heart attack at his home on West Broadway. Dr. Nanninga had not been known to be in ill health, and had returned only a few weeks ago from a trip to the Mennonite colonics in Paraguay with Dr. H. R. Schmidt and J. A. Schowalter. A graduate of Rush Medical college in Chicago, he had studied abroad and during his 25 years in the medical profession had specialized in pathology and X-ray. He had practiced at the Bethesda hospital, Goessel, for six years before joining the staff of Bethel hospital 13 years ago. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Evangelical United Brethren church, of which he was a member. Surviving are his wife and two sons, both of the home.
