GERHARD A. WARKENTIN

Gerhard A. Warkentin of the Tabor Home, Sunrise Crescent, Clearbrook, B.C., formerly of Yarrow, passed away on February 22. He was born on October 5, 1885 in Gruenfeld, southern Russia. During his youth he came to a realization of his need for the Saviour and as a young man of 23 he became a Christian. He married Sara Rempel in 1912, a union which lasted for 59 years. Because of the difficulties which followed the Revolution, they decided on a move to Canada and in 1923 they arrived in this country. They came first to Herbert, Sask. and then settled on a farm south of Swift Current. Here they were baptized by Rev. Franz Martens in 1932 and received into the Mennonite Brethren church. In 1944 they moved their place of residence to Yarrow, where they stayed until 1969. When failing health made it impossible to live in their own home, they moved to the Tabor Home in Clearbrook in 1969.

He is survived by two sons, George and wife Tina of Prince Edward, B.C., and Aaron and wife Anna of Fresno, Calif.; two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Wilhelm) Klassen of Chilliwack, and Margaret (Mrs. Arthur) Dyck of Seattle, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Rev. H.J. Thielman officiated at the funeral in the Yarrow Church on February 26.
