DIDRICH D. TOEWS

Didrich D. Toews of Morden, Manitoba, passed away in the Morden District Hospital on February 16 a few days short of his 91st birthday. He was born at Fargo, North Dakota on February 24, 1881. On November 29, 1903 he was joined in marriage to Maria Thiessen. They took up farming north of Plum Coulee. At the age of 19 he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour. On June 12, 1912 he was baptized by Rev. John Warkentin and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren church at Grossweide.

Mr. and Mrs. Toews lived for some years in Littlefield, Texas and from there moved to Saskatchewan. In 1920 they were back in Manitoba, farming in the Morden area. Wherever he lived, he was active in church and community life. In 1948 he retired to Morden to care for his invalid wife, who predeceased him in 1959. He married a widow, Maria Rempel. in 1960, who survives.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Henry (Maria) Wiebe of Chilliwack, B.C., and five sons, Abe T. of Kelowna, John J. of Salem, Ore., and Dick T., Peter H. and Jacob R. of Morden. Pastor Victor Neufeld assisted by Rev. Frank H. Friesen ministered at the funeral, conducted at the Morden Mennonite Brethren Church on February 20.
