FRED B. SCHMIDT

Fred B. Schmidt, son of Benjamin and Catherine Schmidt, was born Jan. 20, 1874, in Karolswalde, Russia. In 1874 the family came to America and settled in the imigrant [sic] house a little distance south of the Pawnee Rock railway depot in Barton County. Kan. Later they moved to a farm southeast of Dundee, Kan. where he grew to manhood and spent many happy days.

He departed from this life Nov. 10, 1955, at the age of 81 years, nine months and 21 days.

On June 3, 1900, he was baptized upon his confession of faith and was received into the Bergtal Mennonite Church at Pawnee Rock, Kan.

In 1895 he was united in marriage to Matilda Wedel, who preceded him in death June 9, 1944. They shared mutual companionship in joy and sorrow for 48 years. They lived in Barton County for 15 years, then moved on a farm near Greensburg in Kiowa County in the spring of 1910.

On June 27, 1945, he married Laura Smith and they moved to Greensburg where he passed away.

Father enjoyed good health most of his life until the last few years.

He is survived by his wife Laura; three daughters, Mrs. Walter Johnson, Mrs. Pearl Schmidt and Mrs. Grace Unruh; three sons, Ed, Frank and Harvey, all of Greensburg; 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, six sisters and two brothers, many relatives and friends. Three grand-children and two great-grandchildren preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Nov. 14, 1955, at 10 a. m. in the Faith Mennonite Church at Greensburg, and at 2:30 p. m. in the Bergtal Mennonite Church at Pawnee Rock, Kan. Interment was made in Dundee Cemetery. — The Family.
