REV. JACOB P. DYCK

Jacob P. Dyok, the son of Peter and Barbara Dyck, was born in the village of Pasitva, Russia, on April 23, 1894. As a chHd he was much impressed by the influence of a beloved teacher, H. Hegehr. The songs that they sang togeTher left their imprint upon his young mind, and undoubrtedlyformed the seedbed for some of his later experiences. Another event t'hat helped to shape his future was the spiritua,1 revival t hat swept through <their vili'a!ge. A number of Bible studies were st'arted as a resul1 of this awakening. Touched by the Sp·irit of God, he sought for truth and a spiritual encounter wi1!h God. In 1912, he recognized his 10s1: condition and accepted Chris1: as his personal Saviour and lord. In 1929 he left Russia with his wi'fe and young family and in 1930 they came to Canada . For the next 17 years they lived in Hepburn, Sask. During this time he was engaged in colportage work and wa's ordained to the preaohing ministry. He was able 1:0 point many a sin-Slick pHgrrm to the lerd. He often spoke of this time as a special period O'f divine bles-s,ings. In 1948 the family came to Virgil, ant., where he became the leader of the V'irgil Church . In 1963 't'hey moved t'o St. Catharines, Onto In 1920 'he married Tina Janzen, with whom he shared 21 years. God blessed them with six children. Atter the death oif his fi rst wife in 1941 , Susie V'Ot h jO'ined th e family as wife and mother in 1942. Three sons were born to them. Dur,ing the 29 ye'ars of united feli'Owship, they again and again experience,d the mercy and t he all-suHi-cient gra'ce 'O·f <1!heir Lord . Mrhough brother Dyckdid nort enj'Oy the blessi ng 'of go'Od he'alth, he maintained anoptimis,tic outlook on 'Iit·e, and witnessed to many of the bless'ed hope of the redeemed. On May 11 t'he Lord took his soul into the blesse'd 'abode of the saved. He ,leaves to mourn his w i'fe, seven sons, two daughters, 18 grandchildren, two great grand-chi:ldren, two brot1 he-rs, one sister and many Ifriends.
