text of obituary:

DAVID VICTOR DOERSEN

David Doerksen was born on December 9, 1964, the son of Victor and Margaret Doerksen of Winnipeg. Early in his short life tests indicated serious brain damage, as a result of which David spent much time in the Children's Hospital and under intensive home care. He passed away in his sleep early Good Friday morning, aged six years and four months.

His parents wish to acknowledge their deep gratitude to God for entrusting David to their care. He was a happy child, who brought into their lives a quiet joy, innocence, a gentle dignity and human communication purer than language. Within the narrow limits set for him he lived well; he loved good music and his good friends. Of these he had many, among the family circle, the many hospital contacts, among children and theologians alike. On Easter Monday he was laid to rest, leaving the poorer his parents, his brother Paul and sister Eirena. The Rev. Peter Dyck officiated, assisted by Rev. I. W. Redekopp. His parents wish to thank all those who shared with them and David in love and friendship.

Life as a gift./ He comes and goes,/ Destined to lift/ Not arms or head /But others' hearts/ In trust and praise. Innocent, yet/ Searcher of hearts/ He calls forth love/ Smiles peace and joy,/ Then goes above./ (D.W.D.)
