PETER ARNOLD

Pe1er Arno'l·d, 25, of Saskatoon, passed away on June 10, He was born ,in East Prussia 'On December 24, 1945, during a period o·f great uphe'ava'l, serioius povertand s'tarvationduring the Second World War. In 1954, he migrated to Waldheim, Saskatchewan with his parents. He're he began h'is elementary education which he completed in Saskato'On after his parents moved there in 1959.

At the age of 13 years Mr. Arn'O'ld accepted Jesus Christ as his pers'Onal Saviour and was baptized, bec'Oming a member of the First German Baptist Church 'in Saskatoon . Thoug1 h he subsequently ,lost some of his ea'rHer 'interest in spiritual ma'tters, he underwent a spiritual reviva'i during the last year 'O,f his -life and showed a keen 'interest in ,the things 'Of 'life whi'ch rea,I'ly matter most.

In 1968 Mr. Arno,ld married J'Oyce Beskowiney o·f Strug'is, Sask. and G'Od blessed their marriage with one daughter, Ramona . During the last three years, Mr. Arnold wasemp'loyed by Domtar Construction Materia,ls L'imited of Saskatoon as a machine operator.

After a med-i'ca'i examination in M 'ay 1968, Mr. Arno'ld underwent surgery and it was establishe'd t'ha,t he had developed a cancer, which eventual,ly caused his ·deat,h. After a short period of init'ial adjus,tment, Mr. Arnold never once comp'lained about his fate a,lthough he suffered very severe pain. He oIa'imed Christ, who has promised salvation to aH those who trust in him as Saviour, and he was sure of entering heaven where he would be released from suffering and s,in.

During his ,iHness at hom e and ,later in the hospital, he and h'is wi,fe spent much time 'reading and discussing the Hible. When he found rea ding di.ff.icult 'he would ask Joyce to read to h im . Mr. Arnold entered ,the hospita,1 'On M a,y 24, 1970, where he ,I'ingered on, fully 'c'Onscious, for seventeen days. During his stay ·in hospita,l, 'his conversation with visitors and members o'f the family often centred around spirit'ua'i truths from t'he Bib'le. In fact, he pr'Oved to be a rea'i bless'ing to the fami'ly ,in his testimony dur·ing this entire period of illness.

Mr. Arnol'd passed into the presence of the Lo·rd on Wednesday, June 10, 1970, w i1:h his wife, J'Oy,ce and his m'Other at his bedside.

He ,leaves to mourn, his beloved wife, his daug1 hter Ramona; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arno'id of Saskato'On; 'One brother, Manfred, Saskatoen; his parentslin"law, Mr. and Mrs. W'i,Hiam Beskowiney of Strugis; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oldach 'Of Saskatoon; and a hos,t of re,latives and ,friends. The family deeply mo-urns his 'Ioss, but they sorrow no't as th'Ose who 'have no hope, for the Scr'ipture states dea'rly that Jesus died and rose again thM those who die ,in ,the Lord wHI 'be raise,d up again to be forever with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:13, 14, 17) .
