JACOB PENNER

Jacob Penner, 74, of Headingley, Manitoba, passed away on March 21, 1970, after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 9, 1896 to Jacob and Elizabeth (nee Dyck) Penner at Margenau, Russia. On March 9, 1923, he was married to Sara Langemann. In 1925 they emigrated to Canada and settled near Brandon and resided there until the spring of 1941. That fall they took up residence at Headingley.

He enjoyed good health until three years ago. During these three years his health steadily declined and he was hospitalized off and on. In the middle of October, 1969, he was again admitted to hospital where he remained until his death. On November 3, 1969, he accepted Christ as his own personal Saviour. This was a time of great rejoicing for his family. During the last months he endured much pain. However, he testified to the sufficiency of Christ and during the last days he expressed the desire and longing to be with the Lord.

Funeral services were held in the Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church, Winnipeg, on March 24 with Rev. John Wall officiating. Mr. Penner is survived by his wife Sara; nine daughters, Erna (Mrs. P. Loewen) of Headiingley; Anne (Mrs. M. Dimitroff) of Cactus Lake, Sask.; Lydia (Mrs. G. Giesbrecht) of Austin, Man.; Alice (Mrs. D. Johnston) of Vulcan, Alta.; Margie (Mrs. H. Penner) of Winnipegosis; Sara (Mrs. J. Dyck). Hilda (Mrs. E. Burwood), Elaine and Lorraine, all of Winnipeg; three sons, Jacob, Peter and Nick, all of Headingley; two daughters-in-law; seven sons-in-law; 31 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters. He was predeceased by one grandson in 1953.
