PHILIP WIEBE

Philip Wiebe was born January 31, 1912, the sixth child of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Wiebe, Gnadenthal, South Russia. After losing both parents through death in his early childhood, he emigrated to Canada at the age of eleven, together with his brothers and sisters.

At a revival meeting in Gnadenthal, Manitoba, in 1928, he accepted Christ as his Saviour, and became an active testimony for the Lord, particularly through the medium of singing. He enrolled in the Winkler Bible School in 1929 and attended there for over five years. Later he attended Bible School at Three Hills, Alberta. Through his studies and his concern for the Word he was led into the ministry and in 1954 he was ordained to the work.

On September 5, 1935 he was joined in marriage to Anna Dyck and together they had 7 children - four sons and three daughters. In 1952 he left Gnadental, Manitoba and moved to Clearbrook, B.C. with his family. There he often served with great blessing in the Tabor Home for the Aged.

A heart ailment caused his health to suffer during the last few years and doctors advised open heart surgery. The operation seemed successful and the famiy were confident on a full recovery. However, on May 15 he became seriously ill and passed away on the morning of May 16, at the age of 54 years.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Anna Wiebe; four sons, Ben, Dave, John, and Menno three daughters, Irma, Laura, and Linda; three sisters and their families living in Manitoba and two brothers and a sister with their families, living in Clearbrook.
