— Eight of the 12 persons hospitalized at the Bethel Deaconess hospital following last Saturday’s spectacular train wreck at Elbing were still in the hospital as of Tuesday, but all are recovering. There was one fatality. Mrs. Patricia Schweiter, 26, of Salina who passed away in the ambulance en route to the hospital. The accident occurred when a large semi-trailer loaded with a bulldozer was driven into the path of the south bound Rock Island Rocket at the First Street road crossing just south of Elbing. The diesel unit and two cars were overturned and the other two cars left the track. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Regier and son Calvin, 5, and Rev. Ted Roth were standing on the Berean Academy campus when little Calvin saw the truck approaching and excitedly told his father, “I wish that truck would stop, they’re going to have an accident.” The next instant his fears were realized.
