Mrs. Lena Loewen of Virgil. Ontario passed away on July 16 at the age of 73 years.
Lena Loewen was born on January 13, 1896 in the village of Klippenfeld, South Russia to Henry and Susanna Nickel. In 1911, through the influence of a gospel song, she accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Saviour. Shortly after this, she was baptized and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church at Lugowsk, Neu Samara, Russia.
On May 28, 1918 she was united in marriage to David Loewen. Of the 13 children that were born into the family, 10 are still a'live. In 1924 the family came from Russia to Saskatchewan. In 1946 they purchased a farm nea'r Virgil, Ontario. Here they lived until two years ago when they retired and moved into Virgil. In IMe winter and early spring of this year, the Loewens were able to travel ex'tensively and visit their children and other close relatives.
Funeral services were held on J,uly 21 in the Virgil Church with J. G. Baerg and Edwin Wiebe officiating.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband, David Loewen; three sons, Henry o·f Leeburn, Ont., Frank of St. Catharines, Ont., and Jacob of Virgil, Ont.; seven daughters, Susan (Mrs. John Heinrichs) o,f Eyebrow, Sask., Agnes (Mrs. Henry Martens) of Loreburn, Sask., Helena, serving in Nigeria under S.I.M., Erna (Mrs. Peter Heinrichs) of Regina, Sask., Anne (Mrs. Kurt Wagner) of Lambeth, Ont., Tena (Mrs. Walter Toman) of Petersburg, Ont., and Mary (Mrs. Edmund Janzen) of Fresno, California; 32 grandchildren; one brother, Aaron Nickel of Saskatoon, Sask.; and one sister, Mrs. Nettie Rogalsky of Santa Cruz, California.
