DONALD HERMAN BORNE

Donald Herman Borne, two-year old son of Herman and Hilda (Froese) Borne, North Surrey ,B.C., passed away on June 27. Donald was born on December 17, 1966 in Richmond, B.C., and shared his parents' home of love and happiness with one sister, first in Victoria and then in Surrey. With his parents he was presently attending the Kennedy Heights Mennonite Brethren Church in Delta. He enjoyed the occasions when he, together with his mother and sister, could join his father for lunch at the new church building where Mr. Borne was the superintendant of construction. On Thursday evening, Mr. Borne backed his truck out of the garage, leaving again for work at the church, when he heard a warning shout from his brother John. He stopped immediately to discover that Donnie was almost under the rear wheel of the truck, crushed in his kiddy-car. No outward signs of injury were evident, but when the boy became limp, he was rushed to Surr,ey Hospital. X-rays revealed no broken bones, but internal bleeding was determined upon further examination. Despite the specialists' efforts to mend a ruptured liver, the child could not survive the injury and passed away quietly early Friday morning. Funeral s·ervices were held on June 30 in the Kennedy Heights Church, with the pastor, Rev. Rudy Janzen, officiating. Interment was at Valley View Cemetery. A fund has been set up to furnish the nursery in the new church building in memory of Donnie. In addition to this, 60 Gideon Bibles have been placed. Donnie leaves to mourn his passing his parents, the Herman Bornes, and his seven-year-old sister, Carolyn; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. I. H. Borne of Clearbrook, B.C.; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Froese of Clearbrook; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
