MARIA MARTENS

(Mrs.) Maria Martens (nee Balzer) passed away peacefully into glory on April 28. She was born on October 18, 1890 in Russia. At the age of 18 she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized upon her confession of faith the same year. In 1918 she was married to Jacob Martens. They came to Alberta in 1926 and moved to Ontario in 1938. The Lord blessed them with ten children; five have predeceased them. In June, 1967 the Lord called her husband to his eternal rest.

The funeral service was held on May 2 in the Scott Street Mennonite Brethren Church, St. Catharines, Ontario with Rev. H. Penner and P. Dick officiating. The memory of her life of faith and close fellowship with the Lord will remain with all who knew her. Surviving are her son Jacob and daughter-in-law, Helen; four daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Margaret) Giesbrecht, Mrs. Walter (Martha) Penner, Hilda and Lydia; and 13 grandchildren.
