MARIA FRIESEN

(Mrs.) Maria Friesen, nee Schmor, was born in Orloff, South Russia, on March 20, 1876. When she was eight she migrated with her parents, the John Schmors, to the United States and settled near Henderson, Neb. She accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour at the age of 13 and on August 25, 1889, she became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church.

On October 12, 1893, she was united in marriage to Peter J. Friesen of Henderson. In 1906 she and her husband moved onto a farm near Hepburn, Sask. When the church was organized there in 1910 they became charter members. Later, as her husband became the pastor of the church, she shared in the burden of the work. Her husband went to be with the Lord in 1936.

Fifteen children were born to them, 12 survive their mother. They are Mrs. P.D.(Tena) Schmidt of Hepburn; Mrs. H. H. (Sara) Wiebe of Saskatoon; Mrs. Reuben (Annie) Baerg of Dinuba, Calif.; Mrs. John (Mathilda) Quiring of Winnipeg; Henry and John of St. Catharines; Peter and Cornie of Hepburn; David of Dalmey, Sask.; Edward of Saskatoon; Menno of Lloydminster, Sask.; and Jacob of Fresno,. Calif. also 56 grandchildren and 131 great grandchildren.
