MARIA NIKKEL

Mrs. Maria Nikkel of Clearbrook, B.C., was born on June 17, 1899, at Plum Coulee, Manitoba. As a young child she came with her parents to Saskatchewan, where they settled in Hepburn in 1911. Here she came to know the Lord as her personal Saviour, and in 1916 was baptised and accepted into the fellowship of the Mennonite Brethren Church. On August 11, 1918, she was married to Henry H. Nikkel, a marriage that lasted for 50 years less nine days. After moving to several locations, they finally settled in Abbotsford and then Clearbrook in 1944. In 1964, it was necessary for her to have an operation, after which her physical strength deteriorated. A short illness ended in her passing on August 2, at the age of 69 years. During the days of her affliction a poem by Annie Johnson Flint, "What God has promised." and Psalm 121, were precious to her. She leaves to mourn, her husband; two sons: Edward of Vancouver and Reuben of Ottawa; three daughters: Mrs. Abe Froese of Clearbrook, Mrs. Gordon Dancer of Kamloops, B.C., and Mrs. John H. Redekop of Waterloo, Ontario.
