GERHARD PETER NEUFELD

Gerhard Peter Neufeld was born on December 1, 1889, at Bahndorf, southern Russia. At the age of 61 he accepted the Lord as his Saviour and was later baptized upon confession of faith.

He was conscientious and achieved his ambition to become a teacher. On September 14, 1914, he was married to Katharina Irma Bajohr. Shortly afterward he was conscripted for medical service and served in Moscow. After the war, he taught at numerous schools in Russia.

In 1926 he emigrated to Canada with his family and settled in Manitoba. After studying at the MCI for two years he continued to teach for 27 years, at St. Martin, Rosenort, Halbstadt, Edinburg and Mitchell. In 1945 he was ordained to the ministry in the Elm Creek MB Church. While in Rosenort, he served weekly at the Eventide Home. He and his wife celebrated their golden wedding in 1964, at which time he acknowledged God's wonderful leading.

After a time of illness, he passed away on April 30 in the Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 78 years. He is survived by his wife, Katharina Irma; three daughters: Mrs. Peter J. C. Wiebe of Winkler, Mrs. Abe N. Siebert of Debolt, Alta., and Eleonore. His only son, Waldemar, predeceased him in 1929.
