HELENA WIENS

(Mrs.) Helena Wiens was born in Southern Russia on October 19, 1877. She recognized her need for a Saviour at an early age, was baptized, and became a member of the MB church.

In 1896 she was married to John G. Wiens. A son, John, was born to them in 1901. In 1904 they went to India as missionaries, where Mrs. Wiens assisted her husband with the nurses' training she had received in Germany. A daughter, Elizabeth, was born, but because of her poor health they left India to seek medical aid. The child died, and the war prevented their return to India.

In 1926 they came to Canada where Mr. Wiens became one of the first Bible teachers in the Winkler Bible School.

Mrs. Wiens was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband in 1951, and by her son in 1958. She spent the last ten years of her life in the Salem Home for the Aged. She died on May 29, at the age of 90 years, in the Bethel Hospital. Funeral services were held in the Winkler MB Church on June 1, with Rev. Alfred Kroeker officiating.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. A. P. Dyck; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; an adopted daughter, Mrs. A. Liesch, and her family of nine children, 29 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
