NOTED RADIO PREACHER CALLED IN DEATH

The world lost one of its best-known radio evangelists when Dr. Walter A. Maier, speaker on the International Lutheran hour, died in a St. Louis hospital on Jan. 11.

A man who lived an extremely busy life, Dr. Maier succumbed to heart attack at the age of 57.

Dr. Maier began his radio ministry in Detroit in 1935, with the support of the wealthy Lutheran layman, Wm. S. Knudsen of General Motors. The Lutheran Hour network grew steadily until it covered 450 stations and reached into 26 countries in the latter part of 1949. letters received at the St. Louis headquarters often totaled more than 25,000 a week.
