FORMER MISSION SUPT. CALLED IN KANSAS

Hutchinson, Kansas. — Funeral services for Daniel J. Headings of the Hutchinson Mennonite Mission took place at the Yoder Mennonite church on May 3, and were widely attended.

Bro. Headings served as superintendent of the mission for a number of years, resigning about a year ago because of failing health.

DANIEL J. HEADINGS

Daniel J., son of John and Sarah Headings, was born near New Castle, Pa. April 21, 1885. He passed away at his home, 741 East Ave. C., Hutchinson, Kans. on May 1, 1951. His age was 66 years and nine days.

Ever since a major automobile accident eight years ago he had been in failing health, going about his work most of the time and not critically ill until a few weeks prior to his passing. Tuberculosis and an internal cancer condition were the immediate causes of his death.

He accepted Christ as his Saviour when a youth and as he grew older in years he grew in grace and knowledge of his Lord. He always had a ready personal testimony of the saving and keeping power of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was baptized into the Amish church near Partridge, Kans.

On Feb. 7, 1907, he was united in marriage to Susie Yoder. Together they became charter members of the Yoder Mennonite church, Yoder, Kans. Here they labored and served faithfully.

Into this home three children were adopted: Barbara, Mrs. D. M. Bontrager of Scott City, Kans.; Alpha J. Kauffman, Haven, Kans.; and Mrs. Sylvia Schrock, Manhatten [sic Manhattan] Beach, Calif. This home was also the home of many others, young and old, who found refuge in its hospitality.

He retired from active farming around 19 years ago. However he with his wife were always active in church activities. In 1939 they moved into the Mennonite Mission Home in Hutchinson where they served faithfully, visiting the aged, sick, and leading many to the Lord Jesus Christ. When they moved to Hutchinson they transferred their church membership to the Hutchinson Mission congregation, where Bro. Headings was a faithful member at the time of his death. Over a year ago they asked to be relieved of the heavy mission responsibilities but served on faithfully until someone else was secured, March 1, 1951.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Will. He is survived by his loving wife, three children and seven grandchildren; two brothers, Valentine and Sam; two sisters, Mrs. Katie Nisley and Mrs. Emma Yutzy, all of Hutchinson, and a host of relatives and friends.

He bore his suffering uncomplainingly and desired at all times to be in the center of the will of the Lord. His testimony of the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ and of the need for more love among brethren and in the world will never be forgotten by those who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the Yoder Mennonite church near Yoder, Kans. on May 3, 1951, with Harry A. Diener, J. G. Hartzler and Sanford E. King in charge. Text II Cor. 5:1.

Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
