— Cornelius J. Peters, 80, of Hesston, died at the Bethel Deaconess hospital Saturday after an illness of five months. He was born in South Russia and had lived in Hesston for the past ten years. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Buhler Mennonite church, with Rev. A. J. Dyck and Rev. John Evans in charge. Survivors include his wife, Katherine; two sons, George C. of Newton and Dan C. of Great Bend; four daughters, Mrs. Margaret Nachtigal of Newton, Mrs. Geo. Rector of Hutchinson, Mrs. Eva Thiessen of Denver, and Elizabeth Loop of Mentor, Kans.; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

CORNELIUS JACOB PETERS

Cornelius Jacob Peters was born March 1, 1871, in South Russia. He was called to his heavenly home April 14, 1951, at Bethel Deaconess hospital, Newton, at the age of eighty years, one month and fourteen days.

Mr. Peters came to this country with his parents, Jacob Peters and Elizabeth Jansen Peters, in 1878. They settled at Henderson, Nebr., where he grew to manhood.

Upon confession of his faith he was baptized in Mountain Lake, Minn., on May 13, 1894. On March 1, 1896, he was united in marriage to Margaretha Dick in Mountain Lake, Minn. To this union seven children were born. After living in North Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming, they moved to Kansas in 1920.

After fifty-two years of bliss this union, was broken on August 18, 1947, by the death of the mother. On March 12, 1950, he married Katherina Schmidt. After a few months of happy companionship he became afflicted with a lingering illness, during which time she constantly waited on him.

He will be missed by his widow and children and his many friends. He will be remembered for his strong faith in God and his interest in the Christian way of life for his family.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his widow, four daughters, Margaret Nachtigal of Newton, Helen Rector of Hutchinson, Eva Thiessen of Denver, Colo., and Elizabeth Loepp of Salina; two sons, George of Newton, and Don of Great Bend. One son, Cornelius, preceded him in death in 1936. He also leaves three daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three brothers-in-law, seven sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, step-children and a host of friends who remember him in loving kindness.

We tender him the rest, after a long life and much suffering even though our hearts are heavy and our tear drops flow, knowing he is safe with Him in whom he believed and in whom he put his trust.
