MRS. ANNA MARTENS

The funeral servIce of the late Mrs.Anna Martens was held in the Mennonite Brethren Church of Coaldale on Feb. 26, with Rev. D. J. Pankratz officiating. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints," Ps.116:15 was the theme of Rev. D. G. Dyck's message. Rev. A. P. Regier chose to speak on the "prepared mansions" according to John 14:1-6.

Mrs. Martens was born on March 25, 1891 in South Russia. At the age of 16, she accepted the Lord and three years later was baptized and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church. In 1918 she was married to Jacob Martens to which union God gave two sons and four daughters.

In 1925 they emigrated to Canada and in 1930 became resident in Coaldale. She was predeceased by her eldest son in 1943 and her husband in 1949.

Due to her failing health Mrs. Martens had to give up her home here in Coaldale in 1958 and take up residence with her children. Since 1963 her physical condition required hospitalization in the Bowview Rest Home in Calgary where she passed away on Feb. 23 following an emergency operation. A son and four daughters mourn her passing but revere her memory and exemplary life. Sorrowing with the bereaved childiren are three sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law, eighteen grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters.
