FIVE-YEAR-OLD GIRL FATALLY INJURED WHEN THROWN FROM MULE

Lancaster, Pa. — Naomi Esh, five-year-old daughter of David and Katie Glick Esh, died at Lancaster General hospital on Monday, Nov. 25, a short time after she had been run over by a farm wagon after being thrown from a mule at the Eash farm.

Two teams were starting to the field to haul in corn fodder, and the girl was riding one of the rear team of three mules, which were hitched three abreast. The two "off-side" mules were young animals who caused a sudden dash forward for a short distance, toppling the child from the well broken lead mule, the rear wagon wheel passing over her head. She was rushed to the hospital but died upon arrival there.

The girl had previously driven the mule-drawn wagon to Intercourse alone, a distance of over two miles.

The bereaved family are members of the Old Order Amish church, the maternal grandfather, Christian Glick, being a minister. In addition she is survived by the parents and three brothers and three sisters.
