COLLISION OF AUTO AND BUGGY RESULTS IN ONE DEATH, FIVE INJURED

Berne, Ind. — Joyce E. Ellenberger, 40, of Decatur, a former Berne resident, met death and two others were seriously injured in the collision of the Ellenberer car and a horse. [sic phrase duplicated in original]

Seriously injured were Daniel R. Schwartz, 17, driver of the horse and buggy, and Mary Peterson, 12, a passenger in the auto. Both had possible skull fractures. Ellenberger's four-year-old daughter suffered a fractured arm, and Mrs. Ellenberger and small son were less seriously injured.

The Ellen berger car was apparently driving in the left lane after passing a truck and met the horse and buggy almost head-on. the horse was thrown onto the left front corner of the car where Mr. Ellenberger was sitting, and crushed it.

Funeral services for Mr. Ellenberger will be conducted in a Decatur funeral home on December 1 with Rev. Olin Krehbiel of Berne officiating.
