ELMA UNRUH

Elma Unruh, daughter of Cornelius and Sarah Schroeder Unruh, was born April 4, 1913, on a farm several miles east of Goessel. The greater part of her childhood and youth was spent on the farm north of Goessel. Here she received her elementary school training.

As a child she enjoyed good health. However at the age of 15, soon after she entered her first year in high school, she developed a severe case of diabetes of which she had been critically ill a number of times. For a number of years she was quite well and strong, so that she was able to work in the mailing department of the Herald Book and Printing company of Newton, where she was a conscientious and industrious employee.

Elma was baptized upon the confession of her faith in Jesus Christ on May 15, 1932, at which time she became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church, where she was also a member at the time of her passing.

She lived her life in a quiet, unassuming and rather independent way. She thoroughly enjoyed good Gospel radio programs and contributed to their support.

About a year and a half ago she began to suffer from a kidney ailment and other complications which became more serious, as time went on so that she could only work part time. A month ago she had to give up entirely.

The 3rd of October she entered the Bethel hospital where it was hoped that her condition could be brought unto control. She came home the 22nd without much improvement and had to return on Monday after becoming suddenly very ill. She passed away a few minutes later at 1:50 in the afternoon.

While in the hospital she was very grateful for the flowers, visits and cards that she received. She received much spiritual comfort from the visits of our pastor, Rev. Phil. A. Wedel, and of Mrs. Anna Isaac of the hospital.

Elma would have liked to get well again, but when she saw that this was not God's plan for her she became very anxious to enter into her heavenly home where she would be with our father who passed away nearly three years ago.

After her father’s death she and her mother and sisters, Martha and Mildred, made their home in Newton. Besides her immediate family she leaves to mourn her death a number of friends and relatives. Though there was much suffering in her life we are comforted to know that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the Glory which shall he revealed in us, according to Romans 8:18. — The Family.
