MRS. HENRY P. GOERTZ

Mrs. Henry P. Goertz, daughter of Rev. Jacob and Mrs. Unrau Isaac was born in Steinfeld, South Russia, Dec. 26, 1866. Her father died three months before she was born. Later, her mother married Peter R. Voth, who proved to be a kind and loving step-father to her.

The departed received her elementary training in the village of Steinfeld, Russia.

The family emigrated to the United States in 1877, arriving in Marion county, Kansas on July 4. They made their home a mile east of the town of Goessel, and after her marriage she lived on a farm five and one-half miles north of Goessel.

The departed was of quiet disposition and a diligent church worker as long as her strength permitted. She also helped her parents in the early pioneer years in the hard labor that confronted them.

She was married to Heinrich P. Goertz on December 13, 1887, and they were permitted to share life's joys and sorrows for 56 years. They celebrated their silver anniversary in 1912 and their golden wedding anniversary in 1937. She was baptized June 14, 1887, and remained a faithful member until her death.

Her devoted husband was taken from her in death Feb. 22, 1943. In 1941 she became a resident of the Bethesda Home for the Aged, where she lived until only a few weeks before her death. Because of her illness she was removed to the Bethesda hospital for the last days of her life. Much love and kindness was given her during her stay in the old folks home and also by the nurses and doctors during the closing days of her life. She was called away in death the evening of Sept 18, 1949, reaching the age of 82 years, eight months and 24 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure the following children: Henry I. Goertz and family, Canton, Kansas, Peter I. Goertz and family, Lehigh, Kans., Marie (Mrs. John P. Schroeder) and family, and Susie, (Mrs. P. B. Schmidt) and family, both of Canton. Fifteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one half-sister, Mrs. Ben Nickel, also survive. Three children and three grandchildren preceded her in death.

Psalm 116:15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His Saints."

Funeral services were conducted on Sept 21, at the Bethesda Home for the Aged by Rev. C. C. Wedel, and at the Alexanderwohl church by Rev. P. A. Wedel.
