Goering, Ella Unruh (1892-1934)

Ella Unruh, wife of Gerhard G. Goering, was born in Harvey county, Kansas, a daughter of Ben P. B. and the late Carolina (Goering) Unruh on Sept. 25, 1892. She departed this life Monday, November 12, 1934, at her home about five miles southeast of Arlington, being aged 42 years, 1 month and 17 days. When about nine years old, she came with her parents to live seven and one-half miles southeast of Pretty Prairie, in Kingman county, where she grew to womanhood.
She was baptized on confession of her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior on June 14, 1908, and received into the membership of the First Mennonite Church at Pretty Prairie, Kansas. She remained in fellowship with this church until about 11930, when she transferred her membership to the Mennonite Church at Arlington, where she was a very faithful member until the Lord called her home. She loved her Church and always took an active part in the work in whatever way she could.
She was but a child of eleven years old when she suffered a very severe attack of inflammatory rheumatism, which so affected her heart that she was subject to an occasional attack of weakness of the heart ever since. Lately her health has not been so good, which naturally aggravated this heart affection. Although not very well, the final attack and her going home came very unexpectedly to her family and many friends.
On May 14, 1908 she was untied in marriage with Gerhard G. Goering who, with the five children who came to bless the home survive to treasure her memory. Besides the deeply bereaved husband, with their three sons and two daughters, there survive her father, Ben P. B. Unruh, now of Joplin, Missouri; three brothers: Alfred and Carl, of Pretty Prairie, Kansas, and Otto, of Hutchinson; her three sisters: Mary, Mrs. Ben Graber, of Pretty Prairie; Bertha, Mrs. Ernest E. Goering, Arlington; Martha, Mrs. Carl Voran, northwest of Castleton; and one half-brother: John Wedel, Seattle, Washington. Her mother preceded her in death on July 12, 1922, also one half-sister, Mrs. J. D. Schrag, died.
The funeral services were held at the First Mennonite Church at Pretty Prairie, Kansas, on Thursday, November 15, with Revs. J. J. Flickinger and S. M Musselman officiating. Interment was mdde in the cemetery adjoining the grave of her mother.
